USDA Secondary Ag Ed Challenge Grants Program

We are now in the third year of the USDA Secondary Ag Ed Challenge Grants Program. This competitive grant program supports projects to strengthen agriscience and agribusiness education in our Nation’s secondary schools (grades 9-12). The program is administered by the USDA Office of Higher Education Programs. The funding is appropriated for the program by the United States Congress.

Refer to the NAAE website at www.naae.org for the latest information about the program, including links to previously funded projects and to the current application guidelines. The deadline for submitting proposals this year is March 19, 2001. All NAAE members should have received a postcard mailing from USDA announcing the program for this year.

Please keep in mind that the funding for this program comes from the U.S. Congress. NAAE advocates for increased funding for this program. But, the people who can really influence Members of Congress are the voters in the respective Congressional districts and the states -- that’s you!

Please visit the legislative advocacy section of the NAAE website often and please communicate with your Members of Congress about this program. They will support the programs their constituents ask them to support!

If you want to become more personally involved with NAAE’s legislative advocacy efforts, please contact the NAAE office by calling (800) 772-0939 or sending e-mail to naae@teamaged.org.
