The 2011 North Central Region Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program (NCR-SARE) Research and Education Grant Program Call for Preproposals is now available online at http://sare.org/ncrsare/resedu.htm.

NCR-SARE’s Research and Education program supports innovators with competitive Research and Education grants. Individual grants range from $10,000 to $200,000. NCR-SARE expects to fund about 8-12 projects in the twelve-state North Central Region.

SPECA Grants
Amount: $35,000-$50,000
Deadline: January 15, 2010

SPECA seeks to enhance curricula in agricultural education, increase faculty teaching competencies, and interest young people in pursuing higher education in order to prepare for scientific and professional careers in the food and agricultural sciences. SPECA promotes the incorporation of agriscience and agribusiness subject matter into the general instructional program, particularly in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) classes, in order for society to gain a better understanding of food, health and environmental issues.

Projects that facilitate joint initiatives with the grant recipient and other secondary schools, institutions of higher education (associate's and bachelor's degrees), or nonprofit organizations supporting agriscience and agribusiness education, are also encouraged.

NAAE/FFA PALS Greenhouse Enhancement Grant Program

(A Special Project of the National FFA Foundation)

Amount: 3 $6,000 grants
Deadline: November 13, 2009

The National Association of Agricultural Educators (NAAE) is excited to announce it is now accepting applications from agricultural educators seeking to implement a greenhouse project into their Partners in Active Learning Support (PALS) program as a part of that program’s educational outreach to elementary school students.  This opportunity is open to all agricultural education programs with an active PALS program as part of their FFA chapter.

In 2009, three $6,000 competitive grants will be awarded by the NAAE.  Qualified applicants will be those agricultural education programs that meet the following criteria:

  • have an active PALS program as part of their FFA chapter;
  • provide proof of support from their administration;
  • commit to using appropriate lesson plans with their students as a part of constructing the greenhouse;
  • commit to a sustainability plan for the greenhouse; and
  • agriculture teacher/FFA advisor is a member of NAAE.

This grant opportunity, made possible through funding from Campbell Soup Company, will be an invaluable outreach and educational opportunity.  In addition, Campbell Soup Company will be involved for a national promotional and marketing campaign.  Applications must be received in the NAAE office no later than November 13, 2009.

This funding opportunity is under the auspices of the NAAE.  The National FFA Organization is the administrator of PALS.  This is a special funding project of Campbell Soup Company through the NAAE as a special project of the National FFA Foundation.
