Middle/High School, High School, Farm Business Management

  1. Have an ag teacher of the month award for a student who stands out the most in class and displays ag teacherish qualities.  Create a little area on the bulletin board to highlight them.
  2. Set-up a PALS program in your school or make arrangements for students who are interested in being an ag teacher design and present lessons to the elementary and junior high on agriculture.
  3. Bring in representatives from the ag education department at the colleges in your state that offer ag education.  Use the college finder here on the Teach Ag Website for a listing of universities. 
  4. Host an open “teach” night at school where students plan, prepare and teach short lessons to an open forum.  
  5. Implement any of the activities we suggested for National Teach Ag Day into your everyday curriculum. 
  6. Killingly High School Elementary Ag Club - Bethany Royer, an ag teacher at Killingly High School in Connecticut, developed this document as a guide for an after-school elementary program to raise awareness of agriculture topics. Post-Secondary/University

  1. Hold an on campus VIP day for potential ag ed students.
  2. Host or be part of an undergraduate forum on campus.
  3. Set-up a mentoring program on campus to connect new/transfer ag ed students with junior/senior ag ed students. 
  4. Implement any of the activities we suggested for National Teach Ag Day into your everyday curriculum. 

State Leadership

  1. Invite ag ed undergraduates to your summer ag teachers conference and offer workshops designed just for undergraduates and first year teachers.
  2. Recognize senior students who will be majoring in ag education on stage at the State FFA Convention. 
  3. Implement a Teach Ag CDE at your State FFA Convention.
  4. Have a guess the ag teacher contest at state convention and include pictures and facts about ag teachers from across the state while students try to guess who the picture or fact is.
  5. Have students create mini commercials about their ag teacher and show the commercials at convention or at the summer ag teachers conference.
  6. Work with other leaders in your state and offer a Teach Ag Workshop at State FFA Convention for students considering a career in ag education. Workshop can be open to anyone or by special invitation only. Give each attending teacher a few TAGGED to Teach Ag stickers with their registration packet to designate students selected for the workshop. Access sticker templates here.

Everyone

  1. Mentor and connect with new teachers in your state to encourage them to stay in the profession.

Teach Ag Feud


This Flash game uses answers collected from ag teachers all over the United States. Another fun way to get your students thinking about what it's really like to be an ag teacher. Questions range from "What is your least favorite subject to teach," to "What item do students most often forget to bring to class?" and everything in between.
